Topology-transparent Link Activation MAC Protocol for MIMO Link Ad hoc Networks

  • A topology-transparent link activation Media Access Control (MAC) protocol is proposed for Ad hoc networks with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) links. The protocol allocates transmission slots for each link in the networks based on the theory of orthogonal Latin squares , so that each link can successfully transmit its data streams in at least one slot in a frame. The average throughput of the protocol is deduced through theoretical analysis. To maximize the average throughput, a method of searching the optimal protocol parameters is also derived in this paper. Numerical results show that, compared with existing topology-transparent link activation and node activation MAC protocol, the proposed protocol can increase the throughput of each network node.
