A Novel GSE-FEC Scheme for IP-Based Service Transmission in T-DMB System

  • In this paper, based on the analysis of the existing encapsulation schemes, Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) is chosen to transmit IP-based service in the Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) system. As a new emerging technology, no corresponding Forward Error Correction (FEC) function is considered for GSE. This paper proposes a GSE-FEC method to provide additional error protection. In order to further improve the performance of GSE-FEC, an Improved GSE (IGSE)scheme is devised to provide the GSE-FEC frame reconstruction information and the erasure information, and an Improved GSE Erasure (IGE) decoding scheme is presented based on the IGSE for the decoding in GSE-FEC system. The simulation results demonstrate that the IGE scheme shows better error correction capability than the schemes based on Non-Erasure (NE) decoding and GSE Erasure (GE) decoding. Moreover, comparing with GE scheme, the proposed scheme can reserve the correct bytes to the best of its ability for avoiding information wasting.
